What size Cage do I need? For Panther Chameleons the bigger the better. For an Adult Male - a 24”L x 24”W x 48”Tall is ideal as your final cage size. For Females & Juvenile Males - a 18”L x 18”W x 36”Tall cage is recommended at minimum.
For Carpet Chameleons - due to their smaller size, you can go with a smaller cage if space is limited. For an Adult Carpet Chameleon - a 22”L x 17”W x 24” Tall cage set-up will suit their needs. The same sentiment applies here as with Panther Chameleons - the bigger the better.
We do provide Cage-Set Ups for LOCAL Pick-Ups Only. Exact cage sizes will be determined by the brand you choose to go with.
Can I keep more than (1) Chameleon in a cage? The simple answer is No. Chameleons should be kept in their own enclosures.
But, Can I keep a male and female together? No, This is not recommended. Remember the saying - absence makes the heart grow fonder!
Do I really need special Lighting? Absolutely!! This is key to Chameleon keeping. Chameleons need UVB light to help with the formation of vitamin d3 - which is directly related to the absorption of Calcium. This process is essential to your Chameleons survival. It is generally recommended to use a ReptiZoo 5.0% Linear HO Bulb, or Arcadia 6% Bulb for UVB Lighting. Besides UVB Lighting, Chameleons (from Madagascar) will require a heat source. This is the part that will vary based upon your location, & weather - and will not be a one size fits all answer. Don’t feel overwhelmed by where to start with lighting options - We will work with you to get your lighting set-up properly, step by step.
What do Chameleons eat? Chameleons eat a variety of insects..the most common include: Crickets, Dubia Roaches, Silk worms, Black Soldier Fly Larvae & Flies, Bean Beetles, Hornworms & Superworms (as a treat)..and more! It’s always best to buy food from reputable sources such as - Ghann’s Cricket Farm, and Josh’s Frog As with humans - eating a varied diet is always best. Feeding this way also helps when a particular insect is unavailable, or you simply run out of supply.
What is Gut-loading? Gut-loading is the process of providing your feeder insects with healthy food to consume. You know the saying - you are what you eat! Gut-loading should take place 24-48hrs before feeding. Providing fresh vegetables such as kale, cabbage, sweet potato, carrots, apples, helps to add nutritional value to your feeder insects. In addition to fresh veggies - we use Repashy Bug Burger for added vitamins and supplements. While this may seem like a lot of information - we can easily walk you through this process until it becomes second nature for you.
Do Chameleons need water? All living organisms need water to survive - Chameleons are included. In our experience - Chameleons will drink from drippers, misters, leaves, and branches. There are many theories on the proper method to hydrate your Chameleon (which we won’t get into here). Whether you choose an automatic misting system, or to hand spray your Chameleons cage - We will go over those options with you (the good and bad of both). How will I receive my new Chameleon? Whether you purchase a ready to ship chameleon, or a pre-order chameleon - We will always get in touch with you first to coordinate Shipping or Pick-Up. Your chameleon will not ship unless we hear from you. Once you purchase your chameleon, (and we deem it is ready to go to its new home) You will have a (2) week window to take ownership of your new chameleon - unless expressly stated in your signed contract. We always do our best to accommodate our customers.
